UT has found away of using energy efficiently while also cutting the bill down. During games, the UT arena uses a lot of lighting, so John Graham started turning unnecessary things off and quickly earned $1000.
This article isn't very biased as much as it is informative. It is written from an environmentalist point of view but I think that it was more of an attempt at saving money.
V. Energy Resources and Consumption
B. Energy Consumptions
F. Energy Conservation
I hope they patent this energy saver. It would be extremely successful in the current state of the economy and it would be great for the environment.
ReplyDeleteThis is an extremely useful idea that should be used in all big stadiums. We constantly don't realize the amount of energy we waste daily, even by just leaving lights on in our own houses. The lights that Baylor are installing are also smart because then people don't have to remember to do anything when they leave the room. I believe that if people use Mr. Grahams techniques nationwide then a lot of facilities could save a lot of money and energy which could better our planet in many ways.
ReplyDeleteMr. Graham could have really started something big if other universities and professional stadiums start to do this as well. The amount of money that can be saved by doing this can be huge, and if the atheletic programs wish, they could go towards very useful things. The lights installed at Baylor are a great idea, because at first people become conscious about turning lights on and off, but then it starts to wear off. So if these lights start to become the standard in arenas and other atheletic complexes then the amount of energy and money saved can be used to help sustain our planet which is rapidly being used of its resources.
ReplyDeleteI think what Mr. Graham has set off for the UT campus is a great way to help save money and energy. By having motion detected lights and not turning on the air conditioner as much so much energy can be saved with very little effort. also the money saved can go to things with a better cause, like scholarships for athletes, or better equipment. Since UT has started following this trend and other schools catch on, all of the energy saved is helping us sustaining our planet and using the resources we take wisely. This reduction of energy consumption well help out not only the campus, as well the environment in the longrun.
ReplyDeleteI love that more and more college campuses are "going green." I went on a recent college visit. On every college tour I went on, the tour guides were sure to point out their new energy efficient buildings. Many of the buildings had gold or platinum energy efficient certificates on the walls. This made me very hopeful for the future of college campuses. Some of the campuses even had self sufficient dorms. I'm very glad UT is joining the movement to go green.
ReplyDeleteThis energy saving idea in stadiums seems to be very productive. Sports stadiums use tons of energy in things like concession stands, monitors, transportation units, bathrooms... I think that every bit of energy that can be saved in stadiums would eventually make a large impact.
ReplyDeleteThis idea would be useful on a large scale such as stadiums as well as a small scale, like a homes. This small step will make a big difference in the future. Even at EHS we take steps to save electricity, in B-Building mirrors are installed in the ceiling to reflect the light to save energy.
ReplyDeleteI think that this is a very simple and productive way to save energy. We should all learn lesson from this to turn off our lights when we're done using them, that way we will save energy and money as well. If we all did this it would really help the environment.
ReplyDeleteThis is a very useful idea considering large arenas such as this one use so much energy at one time. This also shows how just the simple act of turning off a few lights can not only save you money but benefit the environment.
