Environmentalists pan first drilling permit since lifting on shallow-water drilling ban

Environmentalists are disappointed in the new permit for drilling in the gulf while the BP oil spill is going on in the gulf. Peter Galvin, the director of the Center of Biological Diversity, and many other environmentalists believe that it is damaging the environment as much as the leaking Macondo well. They are bewilerdered at the fact that the administration is allowing more drilling. Despite this permit, Interior Secretary Ken Salazar, is making new safety rules and banning deeper water drilling.

This article is bias because it is about environmentalists angry response to the drilling permit, and it is not argueing with their dissaproval. This article is clearly pro environmentalist.

  1. The grant of this permit is clearly not a good thing, especially at a time like this when we just had a huge oil spill. It is pro enviornmentalist, and shows a lot of opposition to drilling for oil in the ocean. Its biased because it doesn't state any reasons why the bill might be a good thing, even though there probably aren't many.

  2. What the author of this article needs to see is that if we don't drill anymore, then the life as we now know it will be no longer. We need oil for the everyday things that we take for granted and until a substitute for oil is created, we need drilling. What I do agree with is that the government needs to be more strict in the construction of wells so that oil spills don't occur as often.

  3. I don't think that the passing of the permit was a very good idea at such a fragile time in American society. Environmentalists are very sensitive to this issue and are naturally going to present a lot of bias. While we must continue to get oil for our economy, there were probably better ways to do this or appeal to the environmentalists. Articles like this are beneficial, though, to make people aware of the issues that come from drilling and how we must work in our future endeavors, such as the drilling of this well, to make sure the same problems do not occur again.
