- Locate an online article and paste a link to it in your blog.
- Compose a short summary (2-3 sentences) of the article. Be sure to identify the 'Ws' (the Who, What, When, Where, and Why). Most often these points can be found in the first paragraph or two.
- Identify the source of the article and the date.
- Evaluate the article for bias. Where are the opinions offered? Is the source automatically a bias? In what direction is the bias? Is it pro or con environmentalist?
- Finally, reference the AP curriculum topic list and find at least 2 places where your article is applicable to our study of environmental science. As you may be unfamiliar with some of the topics described, use your textbook to assist.
An environmental issue is referenced up to 20 times in every newspaper in the United States. These articles may be about obvious environmental issues such as water quality or ecological issues such as changing weather patterns. The scope of environmental science can also be social, political, and technological. It is impossible to write an article that does not possess bias. As a surveyor of environmental publications and information, it is your job to read critically and recognize bias.
